I cannot log-in to a Remote Desktop computer using my account. Is it because my user doesn't have a password?

By default, users with blank passwords are restricted to console-only logons (as of WinXP and onwards.) To allow blank password logons, go to

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Security Options -> Accounts -> "Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only"

set that to "disable", and you will be able to remote desktop without the need for a password.
