Since Cygwin and Gaim use similiar DLLs for locale and other modules, as soon as you add Cygwin's BIN dir to your PATH, running gaim.exe will load the wrong one, causing gaim to not work (it'll run, just no window will open.) To avoid this, make sure that the Cygwin BIN directory isn't in the PATH. That's it. I don't know exactly which file causes the problem so I can't be more specific.
