How can I create folders in IMAP that can contain subfolders?

Easy, just make a directory under $HOME/mail (or wherver your IMAP folders are stored).

If you want to make a folder named fldr, create $HOME/mail/fldr.

After that, you may wish to add folder-files (one for each folder) into that subdir. To allow clients to subscribe (i.e. see) the folders added, you may want to add the path to them in $HOME/mail/.subscriptions.
